Interesting, but what would happen if you used all the ones which got the best results and combined that into a design, would we get the best interface design? I think not, I think these are good to know and understand as the basics which all designers worth his or her salt should know but for me like everything with design it's the over all picture that creates the best user experience and interaction.

:)PS: Some good posts here, keep it coming

I feel similarly to the previous commenter on this topic in regards to the combination of all the popular elements. All the questions are very situation specific so that it could not really work with the combination of all elements. I found the question with regards to the location of the "close" icon interesting because it works on two different levels. The icon is quite separate from the text in the most popular option so therefore it leads people directly to it when looking to close the window.

However this also relates to the position of the close icon in association with the Windows OS. The left hand close box would be more closely connected with the Mac OS. Therefore the results could be a reflection on the popularity of PCs over Macs rather than usability. If the text is aligned to the right rather than the left then who's to say that it wouldn't be more effective?

It still would probably only be effective in an "apple-like" digital environment or application rather than mainstream digital media.
